MindRight for Athletes Society Founder and Director

About Myles Mattila :

Myles Mattila is a Mental Health Advocate, Business Student and Junior Hockey Player. He remains one of the top spokespeople for mental health, and continues to promote several health initiatives for all ages.

At a young age, Myles Mattila discovered his passion for mental health. He quickly began to embody the necessary support attributes and characteristics by taking initiative, risks and generating hope for advancement in this field. He has worked tirelessly for mental health advocacy by founding MindRight and spearheading a mental health summit. This self-developed wellness program is focused on early intervention and is intended on educating individuals about their own mental health, and the health of others through resources and connections to community services.

Myles provides peer to peer support and is strongly involved with projects that work to transform the way mental health is perceived, all while trying to integrate youth into these efforts. He continues to participate in fundraising efforts and campaigns associated with mental health advocacy and programs. These projects and achievements have not only developed Myles’ community, but have set a standard for growth of awareness and reduced stigma at a national level.

Recognition for Myles efforts continues to grow. He has been recognized by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his efforts in mental health advocacy, recognized by Kelowna Chamber of Commerce and BDO in 2018 as Top 40 Under 40, become a finalist for the Young Male Volunteer of the Year Award in Kelowna, earned the 2017 Chair of the Board Award for being Humanitarian of the Year from BC Hockey, and achieved the Prince George Secondary School Citizenship Award of 2017. These accomplishments not only speak to his commitment, but also his compassion through his consistent efforts in generating community programs in a field that holds such strong negative stigma. Myles is a graduate from Prince George Secondary School with Honours, and is currently in his 3rd year at Okanagan College enrolled in the BBA Program. Upon graduation, Myles will have his diploma in marketing as well as a degree in business management. In achieving such educational goals, Myles was supported by 7 community and entrepreneurial-based scholarships, including the Dillon Thomas Budd Scholarship and Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship.

Following the completion of his Business degree, Myles intends on continuing his education. His ability to speak both English and French support his endeavors. His dedication and efforts will continue as his initiatives advance societal awareness for mental health and community togetherness.

Today, Myles continues to retain the entrepreneurial spirit by embracing educational initiatives, supporting mental health advocacy, engaging in non-profit and business development, and through his role as a player in junior hockey in the KIJHL. Together with the KIJHL, Myles has established lead Peer to Peer Ambassadors in each Division within his League with the ultimate goal to have an Ambassador on each team. Myles will be introducing concussion awareness in partnership with HeadCheck Health early 2020 to the MindRight Program.

“I believe we have the resources available to help youth in need and we should give them support to get the help when needed,”
